Tourism is of several types and many classifications are adopted. Let us deal with them now one by one.
1. FOREIGN TOURISM
If the places visited situate outside the territorial limits of the nation of the tourist, there occurs international or foreign tourism and the tourist is called foreign tourist. Foreign tourism brings foreign exchange and that the third world countries attach importance to foreign tourism.
2. DOMESTIC TOURISM
If the movements of tourists are restricted to places situate in their nation, domestic tourism occurs and the tourists are called as domestic tourists. In India, domestic tourism is referred to as the sleeping giant, referring to its vast potentials.

3. GROUP TOURISM
If tourists travel in a group, group tourism occurs. Group tourists generally pre-arrange for a tourism- package including the places of visit, transport, accommodation etc. This is more popular form of tourism for it offers some distinct advantages for family- travellers, for students etc.
4. INDIVIDUAL TOURISM
As against the above an individual may undertake a tour by himself/herself, alone. When one is in a group, one has to sacrifice some comforts, convenience and needs. To avoid this, one may chart out one’s own travel plan, places, times etc. and undertake the tour. This is called individual tourism.
